Marilyn Monroe Remembered

Associated Press

Scores of friends and fans gathered at the grave of Marilyn Monroe today, still star-struck 26 years after the death of Hollywood’s most enduring sex goddess.

“Marilyn, wherever you are, I hope you have found the peace you searched so hard for,” a weeping Jeannie Carmen said at a ceremony at Westwood Memorial Park in honor of the actress, who died a suicide at age 36. Another friend, Robert Slatzer, announced the formation of the Marilyn Monroe Foundation, dedicated to creating a library and museum in her honor. “Her memory has outlasted her critics,” Slatzer said, calling Monroe “the smartest dumb blonde I ever met.” Following the brief service, each mourner took a single red rose and placed it on her crypt.
