Singleton House sale sets 2015 state high at nearly $60 million

The Singleton House, set on seven acres in the Holmby Hills area, has sold for nearly $60 million, earning it the top spot among high-priced home sales so far this year in California.

------------

FOR THE RECORD

An earlier version of this post said the property sold for $65 million. The Multiple Listing Service reported the price, which has yet to appear in the public record, at $59,355,550.

------------

One of the last major works of architect Wallace Neff, the mansion was built for Henry Singleton, who co-founded Teledyne. Singleton died in 1999 at 82. Today the industrial conglomerate is known as Teledyne Technologies.

The Southern Colonial-style estate features a main residence, a tennis court and a swimming pool. The 15,520 square feet of living space contains a grand entry with an oval hallway, living, dining and family rooms, a bar, a den, an office, a study/library, a gym, 10 bedrooms and 12.5 bathrooms. There is an attached four-car garage.

The gated grounds include expansive lawns, patios, gardens and a motor court.

The sale is among the largest to record so far this year nationwide. New York Jets owner Woody Johnson in March sold his Fifth Avenue duplex for $77.5 million, and the six-acre oceanfront portion of historic Casa Apava in Palm Beach, Fla., recently sold for $71.2 million.

Singleton House had been listed for as much as $85 million, although it was most recently offered at $75 million. The property was leased out three years ago for $34,000 a month.
