Twins Sliders’ Big One: Huge, 11-ingredient milkshake with Twinkie on top

Milkshakes are as quintessential a part of American culture as drive-ins, football tailgating, cowboys and apple pie. So what happens when you take the classic chocolate, vanilla or strawberry version and throw in 11 ingredients? You charge $19.95 for it, and you name it “The Big One.”

Twins Sliders, the newly opened to-go joint between Delancey and Mission Cantina in Hollywood is mixing up the giant, loaded milkshake. Restaurateur George Abou-Daoud (Bowery, Delancey, the Mercantile wine bar, etc.) has turned the small walk-up window into a flashback to simpler times, when all you really needed was a good cheeseburger and a giant milkshake.

The Big One is everything you ever wanted as a kid and still crave as an adult in one cup. It starts with vanilla ice cream then the über-indulgent milkshake gets a couple of heaping spoonfuls of cookies, candy and cereal.

“I personally only like ice cream or shakes that are full of stuff,” said Abou-Daoud, who came up with the idea for the shake. “I need texture for my ice cream.”

The shake is made with chunks of fudge brownies, Captain Crunch cereal, graham crackers, M&Ms, Reese’s cups, Oreos, marshmallows, Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, Butterfinger, cookie dough, and just before its served, an entire Twinkie is stuck into the top.

“It’s like treasure hunting,” said Abou-Daoud. “It could be some Cinnamon Toast Crunch, some brownies, you don’t know what you’re going to get.”
