Jean-Claude Van Damme does splits atop moving Volvo trucks [Video]

Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in the latest stunt video from Volvo Trucks -- the “Epic Split.” Volvo’s billing this as the “boldest” of its six stunt videos, but I’m not sure.

Epic, yes. As of Friday morning, it was nearing 8 million views on YouTube. You may admire the 53-year-old Van Damme in a whole new way after watching him stretch himself into a split over thin air, each foot on the side mirror of a moving commercial vehicle.

But as for boldest, I’m voting for “The Hook,” in which Volvo Trucks’ president, Claes Nilsson, stands on the front panel of a construction truck poised 66 feet above the ocean. A spokesman told the Los Angeles Times that was the beginning and the end of Nilsson’s career as a stuntman.

Nilsson said: “I had butterflies in my tummy.”

No nervous butterfly would dare flit about in Van Damme’s steel-like midsection. As he says in voice-over in the video:

“What you see is a body crafted to perfection. A pair of legs engineered to defy the laws of physics. And a mindset to master the most epic of splits.”
