On the Web
This week at latimes.com/books, Richard Rayner’s Paperback Writers looks at the lingering influence of Ayn Rand. Although she’s best known as the purveyor of a Darwinist social philosophy called objectivism, Rand is, Rayner suggests, actually a pretty good novelist in her own heavy-handed, moralistic way. That’s the reason books such as “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged” continue to sell hundreds of thousands of copies a year.
Also on the Web, look for expanded bestsellers and listings, as well as our books and publishing blog Jacket Copy, latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy.
